A pair of jeans for people who don’t like the ‘leggings’ look

The perfect pair of skinny jeans? Like most of the women I know, I really struggle to find jeans that both fit right and look the way I want them to: which is a bit of a bummer given that I tend to live in the things around 80% of the time. The search for the perfect jeans is a long one, though (I like to compare it to Frodo's journey in Lord of the Rings, but I guess that might be a BIT of an exaggeration...), and, in my case, it's made even longer by the simple fact that I'm fussy. How writing a diary can improve your life

I've been keeping diaries for most of my life, although it's only recently I resumed the habit of writing in an old-fashioned paper journal every night, as opposed to simply updating my blog. In my case, of course, writing a diary quite literally changed my life - in ways I couldn't even have begun to have imagined. Those early attempts at diary-writing were what eventually turned into my personal blog, [ 586 more words ]

How to Manage Your Inbox More Effectively

HANDS UP WHO GETS TOO MUCH EMAIL? I'm going to take a wild guess that most of you have your hands in the air at this point (Or that none of you do, because you all know I can't ACTUALLY see you, right?): as a blogger, I get so much email every day that I sometimes feel like it's answering email… [ 574 more words ]

5 Things to Ask Yourself Before Hitting the ‘Buy Now’ Button

Oh, that 'Buy Now' button! It's been my downfall many a time - as has "real life" shopping, for that matter. Sometimes it's way too easy to get caught up in the moment, and end up buying something that just doesn't work with your closet, or which you'll have no real chance to wear. I'm not sure I'll ever get totally over the thrill of the impulse purchase, but I'm doing my best to mend my ways, so here are some questions I try to ask myself before hitting "add to basket"... One simple trick to help you make the most of your closet

If you want to create a hard-working wardrobe, filled only with items you truly love, there are lots of different ways to do it. The problem is, most of those ways involve spending a lot of time clearing out your closet, sorting through your clothes, and then putting the whole lot back again - minus whichever items you decide not to keep. A few weeks ago I decided to treat myself to a Madewell Transport Weekender bag, and liked it so much that I thought a quick post was in order - so here it is! How fashion blogging helped me find my style

UNTIL I DECIDED TO START A FASHION BLOG, I WAS PRETTY MUCH LOST, STYLE WISE. That might sound like a bit of an exaggeration, but it's true. Oh, I had tons of clothes - I've always had shopaholic tendencies - but none of them really worked with each other, and some of them didn't even work by themselves, because I was one of those people (and still can be, if I'm perfectly honest) who doesn't always stop to think before buying something. Shopping: When to spend and when to save

We're constantly being told that "quality over quantity" is the best way to build a wardrobe, but while few people would disagree with the idea that high quality clothes make a better investment than cheaper ones, it's not always realistic to invest a lot of money on EVERY item in your wardrobe. 7 Instagram Mistakes to Avoid

A while back, I wrote about how we're over-thinking Instagram, by obsessing over "themes" and follower numbers, at the expense of simply using the platform the way it was designed - to record little "instant" moments of our daily lives. I'll be honest: while I really like the shape of these (If you're a regular reader, you probably know all about my abiding love of over-the-knee boots by now: they're just so much better with skirts and dresses than knee high boots, in my humble opinion), I mostly love them for the colour. OK, so "new" is probably the wrong word, here. Pink button peep toe boots It's taken me a very long time to come around to the idea of peep toe boots. Years, in fact. I think I've finally got there, though - and while boots with an open toe will probably never be my first choice when it comes to footwear, these ones have definitely helped sway me. I love ALMOST everything about these: the buttons are absolutely adorable, for instance, and look to me like they belong on a much more expensive pair of shoes; the shape is divine, with that curved upper and thin heel; the colour is about as eye-catching as it gets.
